Providing that foundation is precisely what the schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia are all about. Our dedicated teachers focus not on “teaching to the test,” but on realizing each student’s academic and life potential. Strong values are woven throughout the daily experience in a safe, positive surrounding.
No child should be deprived of this invaluable formative experience because of a price tag. But, unfortunately, rising costs and tuition have made it challenging for some families to afford a Catholic education.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia offers many ways to give to Catholic education – below are a few options.
Educational Improvement Tax Credit
Help a child reach his or her full potential.
The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) gives businesses the opportunity to invest in tomorrow’s wokforce. Companies who donate through the EITC contribute to the academic success of students and earn a substantial tax credit in the process.
EITC donations for students in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia go through BLOCS (Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools), the official Archdiocesan scholarship organization. 100% of BLOCS donations provide tuition assistance for our students.
What is the Educational Improvement Tax Credit?
- The EITC was established in 2001 to provide businesses with a tax credit for their donations to nonprofit scholarship or education improvement organizations.
- A one-time donation can earn your business a 75% tax credit, while a two-year commitment results in a 90% tax credit.
- Your business can receive up to $200,000 in tax credits annually.
Who utilizes the EITC?
Over 2,000 companies have benefited from the EITC. Although several large companies participate, most EITC contributors are small businesses, donating smaller sums of money:
- 12% of participating companies have given $100,000 or more.
- 57% have given $10,000 or less.
Who qualifies for the EITC?
To qualify for the EITC, your business must pay one of the following Pennsylvania state taxes:
- Corporate Net Income Tax
- Capital Stock and Franchise Tax
- Bank and Trust Company Shares Tax
- Title Insurance Companies Shares Tax
- Insurance Premiums Tax
- Mutual Thrift Institutions Tax

Sponsor a Student Program
Help a child read the life-shaping rewards of a Catholic education.
The Sponsor a Student (SAS) program enables local businesses and benefactors to help families overcome this challenge. Through this program, you can help provide the resources needed for a child to attend an Archdiocesan elementary, secondary, or special education school. In doing so, you will not only make a dramatic difference in the life of a child, but also serve as an example of the compassion and selflessness we strive to instill in our students, and our future leaders.
How does the SAS program work?
Your tuition contribution will be distributed to the school or parish of your choice, or can be allocated to the area identified as having the greatest need.
Who benefits?
Those students who want the advantage of Catholic education, but who need financial assistance will benefit most directly from your contribution. Indirectly, the entire Catholic education system, our communities, and our families will all share the positive impact. And, of course, you will benefit with the satisfaction of knowing your compassion has made a real difference in a child’s life.
How do I contribute?
Sponsor A Student provides several levels of gifting, as well as options for payment. Simply select the option from the category that best suits you:
- Gifting Levels: Options include annual donations of full tuition for a Secondary Education Student ($5,000), a Special Education Student ($2,500), an Elementary Education Student ($2,000) or any amount you are able to give.
- Gift Designation: Donors have the option to designate their sponsorship to a specific school or allow the Office of Catholic Education to identify where the greatest needs lie.
- Payment Options: Contributions can be made monthly, quarterly or annually. Donors can pay by check or credit card
